What is military time chart

military time chart Basics

Military time is a way to express time using hours that range from 00:00 to 23:59. Military time is the same as 24-hour notation, in which the day starts at midnight and is divided into 24 hours. As opposed to a regular 12-hour clock, there are no "AM" or "PM" designations and instead of 12:00 PM, military time is represented as 1200 or 12:00.

Understanding the Relationship of Hours on the Military Time Chart

Military time begins with 00:00 at midnight and progresses from 01:00 (1 am) until 11:59 (11 pm). Then it begins again at 12:01 which is 0001 and ends at 2359 (11 pm). Every hour up until 11 pm repeats the same pattern of four digits. For example, 4:30 am in military time can be written as 0430 and 4pm would be written as 1600.

Notable Differences Between Regular Time and Military Time

When converting regular time to military time, one notice a few slight differences. Regular time between 1am-12pm correspond with military times between 0100-1200 respectively while 1pm-11 pm convert to 1300-2300 respectively. Additionally, noon would become 1200 rather than 12pm in military time. If something needs to occur at precise times during the day, then military style notation makes it easier for everyone involved to understand what is expected without any ambiguity.
